April 22 – The 2nd Annual Artz, Eatz and Beatz fundraiser benefitting GABCC was held at the AC Hotel by Marriott at Phipps Plaza, Buckhead. The event, which drew more than 100 attendees, featured spinning by DJ Camille, cuisine by Red Sky Tapas, a silent auction and incredible art pieces from area artists including Anderson Smith, Jeremy Brown, Carmen Ashley Rice, Greg Noblin, Amber Langford and Amy Radar.
Event creator, Anderson “Smitty” Smith was witness to the harshness of cancer, recently losing the love of his life to breast cancer. After his experience, Smith wanted to do something to join the effort in fighting this disease. He and his beloved Oksana both loved art, food and music, so Artz, Eatz and Beatz was born in 2015 as a tribute to Oksana. The event is about his journey into despair and how he found a way out by sharing his personal experience with others.
“Artz, Eatz and Beatz was created as a catalyst to change how we think about cancer. It is a celebration for the survivors and in memory of those who did not make it,” said Smith. “Cancer is not black nor white. It does not care if you are living a happy life, your kids are graduating from college, if you have a new baby or if you just got engaged. Cancer will affect your life, whether you are young or old. We all know someone. We are all in this together,” added Smith.
Several GABCC Board members attended the event including Board President, Sheryl Cherico, Secretary Rebecca Walden, and new board member Frank Goldman. Also in attendance were GABCC Executive Director, Amy Upchurch and GABCC local community partner, Brides Against Breast Cancer (BABC) to showcase its new Atlanta retail boutique.
Together, we are Georgia’s VOICE to END Breast Cancer.
